"Off-grid" or "island-solution". This means that the electricity required can be generated directly by the system on site, for example using a photovoltaic system. When used as an island solution, photovoltaic systems require an energy storage system to operate independently or autonomously from the grid. Off-grid systems are primarily designed and built in locations where connection to the public grid is uneconomical, unstable or unavailable.
