You must choose the screw length to match the thickness of the load-bearing timber, not just the overall installation height: select the length so that, after allowing for the roof battens and counter-battens, there is sufficient thread remaining within the rafter. The required minimum screw-in depth is specified in the screw’s approval certificate – refer to this before planning your installation. Drive the screw in at low speed and with even pressure, and seat the pan head only deep enough for it to lie flat: if you countersink it into the timber, you’ll lose the head’s bearing surface.

Use the 8 mm x 180 flat-head timber construction screw from K2 Systems to secure your PV mounting system to timber.
